Volunteer of the Month- Laquetta Joyner
Hello, My name is Laquetta Joyner originally from Grand Rapids,Michigan . I've been in Huntsville for 5yrs. I have 3 grown children and my 2 daughters live here in Huntsville, Al and my son lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm expecting my first Grand Child, which is a girl. I'm super excited. I've been a nurse for over 20yrs .
I have been volunteering with United Women of Color for 2 years and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I enjoy volunteering because it allows me to connect with others, give back to my community, and work alongside women who are passionate about creating positive change.
My involvement with United Women of Color has opened doors to meaningful opportunities in advocacy and civic engagement. Through UWOC, I had the privilege of connecting with Alabama Arise and becoming involved with Think Big Alabama. These experiences strengthened my commitment to advocacy, community leadership, and empowering others to use their voices to make a difference.
I was also able to participate in the Huntsville Civic Engagement Academy, Spring 2024 session, which further developed my understanding of community leadership, civic responsibility, and the importance of creating lasting change through service and engagement.
In addition to my volunteer work, I have been active with professional nursing organizations, and I am passionate about health education, patient advocacy, and community outreach.
